Early this morning, several Bakersfield residents were awakened by a large explosion-type of sound. Several thought it was thunder; still others thought it was a garbage can. But it was the controlled implosion of a power plant a few miles away.
Hundreds of Bakersfield residents had gathered across the street from the demolition site to watch. At about six a.m., the explosion occurred. Several people were wounded by flying shrapnel, and one man is expected to lose both of his legs.
What does this say about Bakersfield, that we need to watch a controlled implosion for entertainment?
