Local Private School Moniters Students' Facebooks...But Not Twitter

People are mainly pretty tame on Facebook. Other than the occasionall all-caps fight or a photograph at a party or two, there's not much that goes on there. But Twitter is a completely different story. In Bakersfield, as far as I can tell, it's a well-known fact that teenagers prefer Twitter over Facebook for one reason: their parents are not on Twitter, and neither are their school administrators.

At one private school, you even have to provide your Facebook profile link to the administration. But they do NOT ask for your Twitter account. And those kids, and those from public schools too, run wild on Twitter. They bash the staff of their schools by name, they call each other "c**t," "n****r," and "p***y," and they can be very cruel. The meanness goes beyond their teachers and classmates to mocking the Boston bombing, as has already been discussed.

So, why are these schools not monitoring Twitter if they are monitoring Facebook? Could it be because they don't WANT to know what their students are truly like? Could it be they simply have not thought of it? I don't know. But I do know they would be shocked if they did.
